This post will display the most expensive CSGO skin ever sold, as well as others that have a lot of value.
Read on to learn more.
What Are CSGO Skins?
They can also be purchased from the Steam Community Market or third-party websites.
The term “CSGO skins” goes beyond just weapons as well.
They also cover knives, gloves, stickers, agents, cases, keys and more.
Rare CSGO Skins
There are several levels of CSGO skins rarity.
The most common weapon-grade is Consumer, followed by (in ascending order of rarity) Industrial, Mil-spec, Restricted, Classified, Covert and, finally, the rarest CSGO skin, Contraband – although Contraband is now discontinued.
The rarer the item, the more valuable it is.
Stickers have their own rarity scale, starting with Base grade, followed by High grade, Remarkable, Exotic and Extraordinary.
Knives and Gloves don’t have separate rarity scales.
Coming back to the weapons, they also have levels of wear, which is essentially a representation of the quality of the skin.
The lowest level of wear is Battle-Scared, followed by Well-Worn, Field-Tested, Minimal Wear and Factory New.
Levels of wear are graded based on what’s called a “float” value, which is the precise wear value of the skin.
A weapon’s float value can range between 0 and 1, with 0 being the least wear and 1 being the most:
- 0 – 0.07 Factory New
- 0.07 – 0.15 Minimal Wear
- 0.15 – 0.38 Field-Tested
- 0.38 – 0.45 Well-Worn
- 0.45 – 1 Battle-Scarred
Note that levels of wear don’t change over time.
Why Are CSGO Skins So Expensive?
There are several reasons for this.
The first is due to scarcity.
Rare items are tough to unlock.
There is only a finite number of these items in the game.
Since not everyone can access these CSGO skins, they are seen as desirable.
So, as with all items that are scarce in availability, this drives up the prices.
For example, a Covert, Factory New AK-47 will be one of, if not the most expensive CSGO skin, in the entire game.
At the end of the day, it’s simply supply and demand.
Secondly, an item’s release date can also affect its pricing,
CSGO skin markets act in the same way as traditional marketplaces.
Recent items may be sold for more or less than its future worth.
Finally, and arguably most importantly, the main reason why CSGO skins are expensive, is because of CSGO skin betting.
Most Expensive CSGO Skin
Now we’re at the most important part of this article.
Bear in mind, some of these skins may not be available on the market right now and prices are always subject to change.
With that said, here are the top 10 most expensive CSGO skins.
“Olofpass” SSG 08
There’s a very interesting story behind this gun’s name.
Anyone that’s been following competitive CSGO may remember back in 2014, during the DreamHack Winter Quarter Finals, Fnatic revealed a three-person boost, which had never been seen before.
The boost allowed Olofmeister, a member of Fnatic, to reach a high position and kill a completely unaware enemy with a scout rifle.
Fnatic was down 3-13 before the boost.
After winning that round to make the score 4-13, they didn’t look back and failed to lose another round, going on to win the match 16-13.
So, where does the skin come into all of this?
Well, the skin was dropped at the end of this game to only a few lucky spectators.
It’s different compared to regular SSG 08 Detours thanks to the unique stickers.
The game stuck in the minds of so many, so players wanted to get their hands on an actual souvenir from such a historic moment in competitive CSGO.
StatTrak M4A4 Howl – Factory New
If you haven’t heard of the M4A4 Howl, you either don’t know anything about CSGO skins or you’re new to the game entirely.
This CSGO skin also has an interesting story behind it.
The design was submitted and approved by Valve, but the wolf imagery was actually based on the work of a DevianArt artist.
Once the artist knew his work was being commercialized in CSGO, he submitted a copyright notice to Valve, meaning they either had to change the design so it no longer violated copyright, or remove the skin from the Steam Marketplace completely.
In the end, they chose both options.
The skin was removed from cases and existing skins were updated for the newer, non-copyright design.
Today, the M4A4 Howl is incredibly rare which only pushes up the prices.
In particular, StatTrak in Factory New condition skins can reach high into the thousands.
Souvenir AWP Dragon Lore – Factory New
This is perhaps the most iconic, rarest and most expensive CSGO skin of all time.
Why is it so rare?
Well, there was only one way to obtain this skin.
There was only one way.
Currently, you can’t get your hand on this CSGO skin unless you buy a Cobblestone case.
The problem is, Cobblestone cases were only dropped during Majors when Cobblestone was an active map.
So, as you may guess, opening a Cobblestone case gives you a small chance of obtaining a Factory New Souvenir AWP Dragon Lore.
But since it’s no longer part of the Active Map Pool, Cobblestone cases are no longer dropped.
It’s a very rare skin.
In fact, it’s been reported that this skin has sold for $61,000.
Souvenir Dual Berettas Cobalt Quartz – Factory New
It may not be the flashiest CSGO skin in the world, but it’s very rare.
The Souvenir Dual Berratas Cobalt Quartz in Factory New was only made part of the game to commemorate the 2014 EMS One Katowice CSGO Championship.
The gun was only made available from drops during the final between NiP and Virtus Pro.
There hasn’t been another way to obtain this skin since.
The non-Souvenir version will set you back a few cents,
The Souvenir version?
At least triple figures.
Souvenir Tec-9 Nuclear Threat – Factory New
This next weapon on our most expensive CSGO skin list can only be found from case drops during pro games on Nuke.
Since the Active Duty Map Pool doesn’t include Nuke in the rotation much, and Tec-9 Nuclear Threat being a rare skin anyway, Souvenir Tec-9 Nuclear Threat is incredibly rare in any condition.
Plus, the Tec-9 Nuclear Threat has a minimum float value of 0.06 and a maximum of 0.8.
Its float value must be below 0.07 to be Factory New.
So, even if you get really lucky and receive a Souvenir Tec-9 Nuclear Threat, there’s only a ~1.35% of it then being Factory New.
Souvenir P250 Nuclear Threat – Factory New
This skin is rare for the same reason as the Souvenir Tec-9 Nuclear Threat in Factory New.
The Souvenir P250 Nuclear Threat’s minimum float value is 0.06, so there’s only ~1.35% chance of getting it Factory new.
In terms of pricing, its rarity means it easily reaches the few hundred bucks mark.
Glock-18 Fade – Factory New
The Glock-18 Fade in Factory New is probably the best Glock skin in the entire game.
Other guns have lower conditions available for lower prices.
The Glock-18 Fade is different.
It only comes in Minimal Wear or Factory New.
The skin was only made available during the 2014 Assault Collection, so the only way to get it now is via a (usually expensive) trade.
StatTrak USP-S Kill Confirmed – Factory New
The StatTrak USP-S Kill Confirmed in Factory New condition is the most expensive USP-S in CSGO.
You can still get this skin from the Shadow Case, but it’s insanely rare.
StatTrak AK-47 Fire Serpent – Factory New
This skin is so rare, it’s hard to find accurate prices for it.
You’re probably looking at more than $2,000 to get your hands on one.
The case that drops the StatTrak AK-47 Fire Serpent in Factory New is no longer available from playing the game.
The only way to get it is via trading.
AUG Akihabara Accept – Factory New
Last, but certainly not least, is one of the coolest AUG skins you can buy.
The Akihabara Accept skin is very popular, especially among anime fans.
It was released as part of The Rising Sun Collection within the Bloodhound Operation update.
The Rising Sun Collection was no longer obtainable through gameplay as soon as the Bloodhound Operation ended.
The only way to get the AUG Akihabara Accept skin is via trading.
